Emily Chao\, Juan Mejia\, Raphael Lizama and Fanya Lin come to the Opera House as members of the Benderly Quartet\, an homage to our friend and principal benefactor\, Virginia Benderly with a thrilling program featuring two major works. The first is the Serenade in C major\, Op 10 for String Trio written at the beginning of the 20th century in 1904 by the young Dohnanyi\, who was already an international star in his native Hungary and the second is the foundational Piano Quartet in Eb Major by Robert Schumann\, dedicated to his wife Clara the brilliant pianist who performed it at the premiere in Leipzig in 1844. Hailing from Tucson\, Arizona\, the Borderlands Ensemble was formed in 2017 to bring a fresh take to classical music. The group consists of a string quartet\, horn\, and guitar and their high-energy and engaging performances let go of the restrictive formality of classical music traditions. DESCRIPTION:The Benderly-Kendall Opera House is transformed into an intimate bistro setting for a private event open to the members of the Friends of the Opera House (FOH) program.  Tonight’s program features the voices of tenor Edgar Ricaud and guitarist Martin Marquez with pianist Christina Wilhelm in a performance of the classic Art Songs of Italy and Mexico. Guests enjoy the concert while sipping champagne and listening to chamber music as it was meant to be heard\, up close and personal. \nIf you are not a member and would like to attend this concert\, please consider joining the FOH program. DESCRIPTION:Please join us in the courtyard of the Opera House for sensational latin jazz performed by the Cool Breeze trio\, Matt Mitchell \, Mike Levy\, Homero Ceron who play the steel pans\, nylon string guitar and electric bass guitar. \nThey will play a program of short preludes by the masters (JS Bach\, WA Mozart\, L van Beethoven\, F Schubert and R Schumann ) followed by more traditional Caribbean and Popular songs. Three pieces by John Lennon from the Beatles’ album Rubber Soul will be included. \nAdmission is $10 if purchased online by 5 PM on the day of the event.
