Impressions of A String Affair

by Paul Wittner –

April 3rd’s concert ” A String Affair”, aptly named for the two passions of luthier/cellist Zoran Stillen was an unforgettable experience; both musically gorgeous and educational. Works by Boccherini, Haydn and Shubert were performed on Stillin’s hand crafted stringed masterpieces by Emily Chao (violin) Juan Mejia (cello), Ann Weaver (viola), David Rife (violin) and the cellist Stillen himself.

A presentation Stillin gave demonstrating the procedures for crafting the instruments included all of his named tools and templates used in various stages of creation. I loved it and I learned a lot.
