Heritage Art Songs
By David Fain –
Consider what is in place–in our own backyard: a beautiful concert venue and the musical gifts of Edgar Ricaud, tenor and Christina Wilhelm, pianist.
Together, they treated us to an inspired rendition of Italian and Mexican songs – from Alessandro Scarlatti’s 17th c “Gia il Sol dal Gange” (Already, from over the Ganges, the sun), to “La Barca de Oro” (The Golden Boat) by Abundio Martinez written in the early 20th c.
Also featured were several distinctive art songs of Paolo Tosti, Augustin Lara’s “Suerte Loca”, and Manuel Ponce’s ever-popular classic, “Estrellita”.
Christina and Edgar’s dedication to their art was very happily on full display – A joyful collaboration of both artists that brought smiles to the audience and left them wanting more!
